Minutemen in Meridian for Ross

Meridian Star - Ross endorsed by minuteman founder - Charlie Ross has received an endorsement from Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist in his bid for the 3rd Congressional District seat that will be vacated by Chip Pickering, Jr. at the end of term. The Minuteman Project is a California-based anti-illegal-immigration group, which some have criticized as over-zealous. Gilchrist said in a press conference announcing the endorsement at the Lauderdale County courthouse Wednesday that he chose to endorse Ross because he is “a congressional candidate who has a proactive history in immigration law enforcement advocacy.” Ross said he is proud to receive the endorsement, and when asked about the group’s image, said, “The only thing the Minutemen do is go to the border with binoculars and a cell phone and call immigration services when they see an obvious illegal immigrant ...That is a very good service they are offering this country.” Gilchrist said the group is “not anti-immigration” but “anti-illegal immigration”. Ross said that illegal immigration “will be a major issue when I get to Washington.”

WTOK - Minutemen Founder Backs Ross- Third congressional district candidate, Charlie Ross, has picked up an endorsement from the founder of the Minutemen Project. Jim Gilchrist appeared with Ross Wednesday in Meridian. According to his Web site, Gilchrist started the Minuteman Project in 2004 over dissatisfaction with the U.S government's enforcement of existing immigration laws. Gilchrist said Ross believes in the same policy as the Minuteman Project. He said Ross is the only candidate that shared the same stance on these issues. "None of them are even mentioning illegal immigration and the chaos that it has brought to the United States of America over the last 40 years, or even indicating that they are going to do anything about it," Gilchrist said.
