Rounsaville Qualifies for Primary Ballot
Candidate Files Official Papers with Mississippi Republican Party

Today at Noon, John Rounsaville became the first candidate in the Mississippi Third District Congressional race to file his Qualifying Statement of Intent with the Mississippi Republican Party, securing a spot on the March 11, 2008 Primary Election ballot. Previously, Rounsaville had filed his Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission.

After filing, Rounsaville made the following statement: “This step makes it official. Our campaign has been progressing strongly over the past two months, and our positive message has been resonating with voters throughout the Third Congressional District. As I have campaigned across the district, I’ve been encouraged by the support and encouragement I have received. We’ve got to begin rebuilding the seniority we are losing in the House, and voters in the Third District want a candidate with actual experience who can truly hit the ground running. Mississippi has a proud history of electing candidates in their thirties to the House of Representatives. It’s a formula that worked for Trent Lott, Thad Cochran, Chip Pickering, Sonny Montgomery, and others. Our campaign has now begun in earnest, and we’re looking forward to continue building a strong grassroots organization that will get out our message that Mississippians care about: A strong national defense, secure borders, lower taxes, economic development, and a commitment to traditional family values. I am excited about the upcoming two month sprint, and I am confident that we will be successful on March 11th.”

John Rounsaville has over a decade of public service to the people of the Third Congressional District at the federal and state levels. He served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director to Congressman Chip Pickering, Policy Advisor to Governor Haley Barbour, and was appointed State Director for USDA Rural Development in Mississippi by President George W. Bush.
